SMS being circulated to warning ladies of sexual predators

There's an SMS being circulated warning females who go to work/school alone and tend to stay out late of the following:

If you meet a child crying and asking you to bring him/her to a specific address, do not fall for it. Bring the child immediately to the police station. Apparently this has become a way for sexual predators to lure unsuspecting females into their lair, to rape them. They operate in groups so please don't think that you alone can defend yourself even if you're very physically fit.

I'm not sure how true this is, but ladies, good to be wary anyway. Do share this with your friends and family, just in case.

Resilience training to help service personnel handle difficult customers

27112010002

This article titled 'Stay cool under pressure' appeared in the Recruit section of Straits Times today, Saturday 27 November 2010.

The article defines the 3 types of difficult customers and how to deal with them:

1. The hostile-aggressive customer
2. The insistent customer
3. The negative customer

And it's a good article, I reckon, from my personal experience as an ex-customer service personnel. But as I read all 3 descriptions of difficult customers, I thought about how I've been dealing with Starhub and OCBC, and I realized...

Oh damn. I'm all three! Ooops. =X

I am putting my Acer laptop to sleep tomorrow

27112010001

It's my last night with my Acer TravelMate 3002 laptop. It's been with me for 5 long years. Looking back, it's hard to believe it's been that long. I first got it in Aug 2005. Back then it was one of the lightest laptop in the market at 1.3kg, inclusive of a 3-cell battery.

Since then, it's had its hard disk drive changed once because I slammed the laptop lid shut while it was still running, due to immense anger. It's gone through a reformat once only, and I've used it in NIE, SHRI, and SMa. I've also used it at work during my time as Business Development Executive at the real estate company, and had brought it along on many trips overseas. To Chiang Mai, to Beijing, to Ho Chi Minh, to Siem Reap, to San Francisco, to Las Vegas, to Jakarta, and many more.

I have brought it out on countless trips to Starbucks, on study trips to the library, played games on it, and have watched so many movies on it.

Come tomorrow, I'm going to lay it to rest at the trade-in cum technology gadgets recycling booth at SITEX 2010.

It's served me well for 5 years, but now the fan is unbearably loud, the battery life's unbelievably short, the USB ports are malfunctioning, the motherboard is heating up, the processor is too slow. The computer also crashes when I run more than 2 programs together, and hangs more often than not mid-way through my work. It hasn't been able to properly do a lot of things, like load videos, run more than 10 tabs per window, or simply stay connected to my 3G USB modem nor Wifi networks for very long.

I guess it's time to lay it to rest. It's just a matter of sonner or later.

I know I ought to give it to someone who might still be able to use it, but I don't wanna burden them for a short period of time, then have to trouble them to dispose of this laptop properly. So I'll get rid of it and make sure it's disposed of in the best way.

Good bye Acer, and good night.
